ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team lost in straight sets Tuesday night to Glenville State in a Mountain East Conference match at the Carter Center.
GSU (13-8, 2-3 MEC) took the match 25-17, 25-15, 25-18.
Set 1
Concord (6-14, 0-5 MEC) took its largest lead of the opening game, 14-11, after a 4-0 run that included kills from sophomore outside hitter
Gracie Brackney and junior middle hitter
Kyndra Pilant. Still leading 15-12, the Mountain Lions watched Glenville State break off seven points in a row to gain control of the game.
Set 2
The middle set went back-and-forth early as CU trailed 11-8 after a Pioneers' service error. However, GSU went on a 5-0 run to go up 16-8. Concord was able to trim the deficit to seven, 17-10, but never any closer.
Set 3
Trailing by six, 14-8, the Mountain Lions ripped off five straight points to claw within 14-13. Included in the spurt were kills from Brackney, freshman right side
Logan Newberry and sophomore outside hitter
Hannah Steele as well as a service ace from Brackney. However, GSU never allowed Concord to tie the set. Up 18-15, Glenville State scored three quick points to take back momentum.
Match Stats
Steele notched five of her 10 kills in the opening game. Brackney went for eight kills. Pilant had five kills and a team-best nine digs. Freshman setter
Kenzee Chaffin threw in 26 assists.
CU goes on a two-match road swing at Wheeling 5:00 p.m. Friday and at West Liberty 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
