Concord and Notre Dame Finish in a 1-1 Tie

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Notre Dame Wednesday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at the YMCA Cline Complex.

CU (11-4-2, 9-4-2 MEC) had to come from behind in order to earn a point.

After a first half that featured just eight total shots, Notre Dame (6-7-4, 5-6-4 MEC) scored off a counter in the 59th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Almost immediately after the restart, sophomore forward Jayme Millard had a shot that was blocked and earned Concord a corner kick. In the 61st minute, senior midfielder Courtney Smith had a look from 20 yards out that went over the cross bar.

The Mountain Lions were able to break thought in the 65th minute as Millard played a ball into senior forward Rachel Bell inside the penalty area as she slotted her fifth goal of the season to tie the game.

Bell had another attempt in the 72nd minute that came up short. Freshman midfielder Jessica Neville had two looks at goal in the 80th and 86th minutes, but was turned away.

In the final 10 seconds of the game, redshirt freshman midfielder Reeanna Cook had a shot from outside the penalty box that was blocked on its way through to the goal mouth.

Concord tallied 12 shots in the game while holding NDC to five (three on goal). Bell took four shots while Neville added three.

Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Leah Marsh made two saves.

Concord finishes the regular season at Glenville State 12:00 p.m. Sunday.
