STILL IN THE HUNT
With six teams qualifying for the MEC Tournament this season, Concord remains in the mix for a postseason berth. The Mountain Lions will need to win their final two games, against Notre Dame and Charleston, and receive some help to make the conference postseason. CU remained alive for tournament consideration after 2-0 and 4-3 win over Wheeling and Alderson Broaddus, respectively. It was the first time the Mountain Lions won back-to-back road games since September 2017. Reigning MEC Offensive Player of the Week and junior midfielder
Ricardo Chinea-Pegler notched eight points during the week as he brought his career total to 20, three points shy of breaking into the top 10.
LONG TIME COMING
Chinea-Pegler's recent run of games placed him into a tie for 10
th in the MEC with six goals this season. Senior midfielder
Michael Shelor scored in both games last week for CU as he assisted on one of Chinea-Pegler's goals at Alderson Broaddus. Before scoring at Wheeling, Shelor hadn't scored since the game at Frostburg State August 28—also scoring in consecutive games after scoring in the season opener versus King. Fifth-year senior forward
Daniel Culverwell found the back of the net for the first since the 2019 season as he tallied his first goal on Saturday against AB.
LOOKING TO REBOUND
Concord hosts Notre Dame looking to split the season series with the Falcons after a 7-1 NDC win September 11. Chinea-Pegler tallied his first goal of the season after his 41
st minute cut the margin to 2-1. Freshman midfielder
Andrew Beohler had two of the three CU shots on goals at Notre Dame. Freshman goalkeepers
Keegan Grant (one) and
Tommy Smith (five) combined for six saves in the game. Junior defender
Ezequiel Villarreal scored against Notre Dame last season at home while Chinea-Pegler and Shelor assisted on the goal.
