Concord Rolls by Alderson Broaddus, 5-0

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team scored four of its five goals after halftime as it cruised to a 5-0 win over Alderson Broaddus Sunday afternoon at Multi-Sport Performance Stadium in a Mountain East Conference contest.

Leading 1-0 after halftime, on the strength of a ninth-minute goal from senior midfielder Ellie Hawcroft, redshirt freshman midfielder Reeanna Cook doubled the CU (11-4-1, 9-4-1 MEC) lead in the 54th minute with her third goal of the fall.

From there, the Alderson Broaddus (0-12-3, 0-12-2 MEC) defense kept Concord out of the goal for over 20 minutes.

Fifth-year senior midfielder Leah Foster broke through again for the Mountain Lions in the 78th minute as she scored for the 10th time this season. Concord added two goals in the final five minutes as sophomore forward Nora Voisey found the back of the net for the first time in 2022 in the 87th, and fellow sophomore forward Jayme Millard matched Foster for the team lead in goals with her 10th in the 89th minute.

CU's back line as well as fifth-year senior goalkeeper Leah Marsh controlled the AB attack as the Battlers only recorded one shot in the game. The Mountain Lions posted 31 shots with 18 on goal.

Along with the five goal scorers, sophomore midfielder Anna Davis assisted on Hawcroft's goal to tally a point in the game.

Coupled with a Charleston loss Saturday, Concord's win Sunday moved the Mountain Lions into sole possession of second place in the MEC South Division.

CU looks to extend its winning streak to seven games when it plays host to Notre Dame in the final regular season home game 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the YMCA Cline Complex in Beckley.
