ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team faces Fairmont State 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in a Mountain East Conference match before traveling to take on Mercer County rival Bluefield State 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.

GETTING THROUGH THE BLOCK
The Mountain Lions face one of the best blocking teams in the conference in Fairmont State. FSU is ranked second in the MEC in blocks per set (2.58). And the Fighting Falcons have three players in the top 10 in the MEC in blocks led by Emma Ludwig who is second (1.23). Sophomore outside hitter

th in the conference with 3.0 kills per set. CU has done a good job of staying away from blocks this year as it has not allowed any team to reach 10 blocks in a match.

Logan Newberry got her first extended playing time at setter on Saturday with freshman setter
Kenzee Chaffin out of the lineup versus West Liberty. Newberry collected a career-best 13 assists against the Hilltoppers. Junior setter
Kristin Lough distributed 10 assists in the contest. This season, Chaffin is fifth in the MEC with 7.0 assists per set. The last time out at home, Chaffin came up with 26 assists in three sets versus Glenville State.
LONG TIME COMING
Wednesday's contest at Bluefield State will be the first time the Mountain Lions take on BSU since September 2018. Concord leads the all-time series 24-7 and hasn't lost to the Big Blues since 2010. Head coach

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING FALCONS
Fairmont State has won six straight matches ahead of Tuesday's meeting. The rest of the front row blocking includes 1.13 blocks per set from Amelia Moore, fifth in the MEC, and 0.90 blocks per game from Nyla Birch, eighth in the league. Keara Lewis paces the offensive attack with 3.17 kills per set. Birch is adding 2.77 kills per set. FSU is 4-0 in true road matches in 2022 having not dropped a set.

Bluefield State has played at Concord this season as it went winless in four matches at the Concord Classic in early September. BSU has been solid at home season having won four of five matches inside Ned Shott Gymnasium. Allyson Martin is averaging over three kills per set (3.08). Veronica Butler is coming up with 3.19 digs per game. Bluefield State is seeking to win three matches in a row for the first time this fall.
