SHOOTERS GONNA SHOOT
Junior guard
Jazz Blankenship led the way for the Mountain Lions in a 70-56 win over UVa.-Wise Monday night as CU earned its 10
th win of the season. The 10
th win in 14 games is the exact same pace CU is one from two years ago when it finished 21-9. Concord won its 10
th game on January 15, the 14
th game of the season over West Virginia Wesleyan. For Blankenship at UVa.-Wise, she pumped in a career-best 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting and tied a career-high with four made three-pointers. Additionally, the Lester, West Virginia native stepped up and knocked down all seven free throws she attempts, also a career high. Since being inserted into the starting lineup December 8, Blankenship is averaging 12.2 points per game and has scored 10 or more points in six of those eight games.
ALL-AROUND PERFORMANCE
Fifth-year senior forward
Riley Fitzwater tallied her ninth double-double of the season and 71
st double-double of her career by recording 17 points and 13 rebounds at UVa.-Wise. She added six blocks and a career-best three steals in the victory over the Cavaliers. Since returning from Christmas, Fitzwater is averaging 21 points, 13.6 rebounds and 4.6 blocks per game in three CU wins while shooting 74.2 percent (26-for-35) from the floor. Fitzwater is also the reigning MEC Player of the Week after averaging 23 points and 14 rebounds in wins over West Liberty and Wheeling. At UVa.-Wise Monday, Fitzwater went over 1,800 career points, one of eight active players in Division II to do so. Among all divisions of women's basketball, Fitzwater's 71 double-doubles are 10 better than second place, Southern Virginia's Katie Garrish.
SHARING THE WEALTH
The Mountain Lions passed out 21 assists in Monday's win after handing out 18 assists in Saturday's 83-66 victory over Wheeling. Monday marked the fifth time this season that CU has notched 20 or more assists this season with the first four coming in sequence November 23-December 8. Senior guard
Maggie Guynn tied her career high with seven assists versus the Cavaliers. Sophomore guard
Maddie Ratcliff added five more assists in the win which tied her career best as well. Concord is just outside the top 25 in Division II this season in assists per game with 16.0. However, no player averages more than 2.4 assists per game with Ratcliff and senior guard
Gracie Robinson both handing out 2.4 per game. Sophomore guard
Jaisah Smith is averaging 2.3 assists per game.
DEFENSIVE MINDSET
Another trend that continued for the Maroon and Gray on the road was the stingy defense. While CU shot just 41.3 percent in Monday's win—the second-lowest percentage in a win this season—Concord held UVa.-Wise to 29.4 percent from the floor. It was the sixth consecutive game, and the 10
th time overall in 2021-22 that the Mountain Lions held a team under 40 percent shooting. CU's field-goal defense of 34.9 percent for the season is tied for 29
th in Division II. At UVa.-Wise, Concord registered a season-best 10 blocks. Fitzwater led the way with six, and junior forward
Alexis Phillips chipped in a career-high tying two to help stymy the Cavaliers. In a home win over WVWC last season, Concord held the Bobcats to 37.3 percent from the floor and limited D&E to 32.1 percent, but the Senators came away with a 67-65 win over CU at Davis & Elkins.
SEEKING A SWEEP
The Mountain Lions split with both Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan last season with Concord winning at home over both teams. CU secured a 74-61 home win over WVWC on January 13. The Maroon and Gray dispatched of Davis & Elkins 74-54 February 13 to avenge the road loss earlier in January. In her career, Fitzwater is averaging 18 points, 14.2 rebounds and five blocks per game in four games versus D&E. The Mountain Lions are 8-1 against West Virginia Wesleyan in the last nine meetings. Guynn has been part of six of the wins and is averaging 11.6 points per game in her career versus WVWC. In last year's home victory over the Bobcats, Fitzwater recorded 21 points and 12 rebounds. Guynn added 17 points and four assists. Versus Davis & Elkins, Fitzwater had another double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Ratcliff came off the bench with 18 points and Smith averaged 16 points per game in two games versus D&E.

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
After a head coaching stint as the Chowan men's basketball coach, Brett Vincent is in his first season as the head coach of the WVWC women's basketball team. Symphonie Bryant-Brown is just outside the top 10 in the MEC in scoring at 14.1 points per game. Courtney Wilfong also scores in double figures with 11 points per game. In Wesleyan's win over CU last season, Malaika Kimmons had 10 points and 12 rebounds. However, she has only played in two games this season. The Bobcats haven't played since December 11 due to Covid-19 protocols.
DAVIS & ELKINS AT A GLANCE
Davis & Elkins' best player from a season ago, Jamiyah Johnson, transferred to Slippery Rock over the summer. However, Marissa Berlin has picked up the production as she averages 11.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Dream Cherry is the eighth leading scorer in the MEC at 15.5 points per game. The Senators had won back-to-back games before dropping a 69-60 decision to Notre Dame Monday night. Davis & Elkins is the only team in the MEC not averaging 60 points per game as it scores 57.1 points per game.
