BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team scored first, but was unable to hang on to a goal advantage as it lost 2-1 to West Virginia Wesleyan in Mountain East Conference action Wednesday afternoon at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex.
CU (0-6, 0-5 MEC) scored in the 14
th minute as freshman defender
Esteban Correa scored off a corner kick after the initial placement took a deflection and landed right at Correa's feet for him to punch in his first career goal.
The Mountain Lions held the 1-0 lead over the next 20 minutes until West Virginia Wesleyan (4-1, 3-1 MEC) scored twice in an 80-second span. WVWC evened the game with a goal at the 34:22 mark and went ahead at the 35:42 mark of the first half.

Tomas Fanello had a chance to even the game in the 55
th minute as his attempt went wide right of the target. A free kick by freshman midfielder
Franco Acri in the 76
th minute was turned aside by the Wesleyan goalkeeper, and perhaps the best second-half chance for the Maroon and Gray was a header from inside the penalty area by sophomore midfielder
Juan Farinella that missed the goal in the 86
th minute.
WVWC owned a 16-10 advantage in shots and held a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.

Kyle Brown made four saves in the contest. Sophomore midfielder
Robbie Stiles had a team-best three shots. Fellow sophomore midfielder
Ricardo Chinea-Pegler added two shots.
The Mountain Lions continue their homestand when they welcome non-conference foe Shaw 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
