ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team plays its final road games of the regular season when it visits Notre Dame 12:00 p.m. Sunday for a Mountain East Conference doubleheader.

SCHEDULE NOTE
Due to Alderson Broaddus opting out of the remaining 2021 spring schedule, Concord will not play AB Monday afternoon as originally scheduled. CU receives two MEC wins, but not overall wins, for the Alderson Broaddus games.

RECORDS
The Mountain Lions are 12-18 overall and are back to .500 in the MEC at 12-12.

NDC is also 12-18 this season, and sports a mark of 11-13 versus conference foes.

LOCK EM DOWN
Junior pitcher/outfielder Laura Thompson tossed her third career shutout Sunday with a 1-0 victory at Fairmont State. The Prince George, Virginia native tied her season high with nine strikeouts as she had a no-hit bid into the fifth inning. Thompson's other two shutouts came against Shepherd in the 2019 MEC Tournament and at Glenville State (six innings) April 2019. Senior pitcher/outfielder Cartney Schoolcraft picked up her 25th career win at Frostburg State last Saturday, becoming the fifth player in program history to rack up 25 wins. Additionally, Schoolcraft moved to within six strikeouts of becoming the all-time strikeout leader in program history. The Winfield, West Virginia native starts the weekend with 266 career strikeouts. Schoolcraft has nine career strikeouts in 5.2 innings against NDC.

BREAKING OUT THE BATS
Concord recorded 16 hits in a 12-5 win at Frostburg State, marking the 10th time this season that the Maroon and Gray has had double-digit hits in a contest. The 16 knocks were the second most in 2021 for CU. Senior outfielder Dani Bloomingdale notched her second three-hit game of the season at Frostburg State. Senior utility Jenna Witt matched Bloomingdale's three hits, and is now at 249 career hits. The Harpers Ferry, West Virginia native has the 11th-most hits in Division II among active players. Witt is also tied for second in career hits in the MEC with West Virginia Wesleyan's Brooklyn Waddell (2014-17). Senior catcher/third baseman Lauren Richardson hit her second home run of the season at Frostburg State while Schoolcraft had her first career game with two doubles.

FENDING OFF THE FALCONS
The Mountain Lions have won five of the last six games over Notre Dame, including picking up a home doubleheader sweep of the Falcons in 2019. The trio of senior outfielder/pitcher Darby Fitzpatrick, Schoolcraft and Thompson combined to hold NDC to three runs in 16 innings. Schoolcraft and Thompson teamed together for 12 strikeouts—six each—in game one as CU's Kylie Kent hit a walk-off three-run home run to lift Concord to a 5-2 win. Fitzpatrick and Schoolcraft held Notre Dame to one run in game two with Schoolcraft picking up both wins in relief. Witt has seven career hits against the Falcons.

NOTRE DAME AT A GLANCE
Notre Dame enters Sunday's doubleheader having lost six straight games in sweeps against Frostburg State, Charleston and West Virginia State. NDC is 7-3 at home this season, including two wins over Fairmont State in its latest home games. Lexi Rehm is hitting a team-best .376 this season with two home runs and 13 RBI. Alexi Maciejowski and Mya Wright each have three home runs and 14 RBI. Taylor Olson who pitched 8.2 innings at Concord in 2019 is 5-7 in the circle in 2021 to go with 57 strikeouts in 78 innings.
