ON A ROLL
The Mountain Lions swept a four-game series from West Virginia Wesleyan to match its longest winning streak since April 30-May 5, 2019 when CU won a non-conference game over Bluefield State before taking four games from UVa.-Wise to close the regular season. The 36 runs scored by Concord at WVWC were the most in a four-game stretch since CU plated 41 runs from April 13-17, 2019 in three games against Wesleyan and a contest versus Winston-Salem State. At the top of the lineup, freshman infielder
Zack Saryeldin was 7-for-15 (.467) with three multi-hit games and four RBI. Junior infielder
Anthony Stehlin was 5-for-12 (.417) with six RBI. In the final two games of the series, junior catcher
Chance Davis was 4-for-7 with four RBI while freshman catcher
Nick Funk had five RBI in the series finale. On the mound, Concord's four starting pitchers of senior
Trent Abernathy, freshman
Eddie Blake, senior
Spencer Hoyt and freshman
Andrew Neff combined for 23 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.91. Blake was named the MEC Pitcher of the Week for tossing a complete game with six strikeouts at WVWC.
POWER AND STRENGTH
In four games at West Virginia Wesleyan, Concord notched 14 extra-base hits (nine doubles, four home runs and a triple). Stehlin hit two home runs to start the series, homering twice in the first inning of game one. Last Saturday was the second multi-home run game of the season for Stehlin, after hitting two home runs versus Salem April 7. Stehlin's two home runs were part of CU's 10-run first inning—the first inning with 10 or more runs since a 13-run sixth inning at Ohio Valley April 23, 2019. Davis had his first two extra-base hits of the season with a double and triple in game four of the Wesleyan series. Sophomore outfielder
Richard Ortiz matched Stehlin for the team lead in home runs with a blast in game four. Both players have six. Funk hit his first home run of the season as part of his five-RBI performance.
