Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Concord Clipped by Alderson Broaddus in Overtime

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team was edged by Alderson Broaddus, 1-0, Friday evening in a Mountain East Conference contest at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex.

Alderson Broaddus (2-3) netted the game-winning goal in the 96th minute off a corner kicker.

The two sides needed 45 minutes to get warmed up as the first half featured just 12 total shots, but after halftime a total of 22 shots were recorded. After the Battlers had a series of chances early in the second half, freshman midfielder Robbie Stiles recorded both of his shot attempts 10 minutes apart—the 57th an 67th minute—with the latter being saved.

The best scoring chance came from AB in the 73rd minute as CU's freshman goalkeeper Sean Monro saved a penalty kick to keep the game scoreless.

Sophomore midfielder Michael Shelor missed high with an attempt in the 75th minute, and the same happened to junior midfielder Daniel Culverwell in the 82nd minute.

CU survived a flurry of action in the final minutes of the second half to push the game to overtime.

The lone shot on goal in overtime was the game winner from Alderson Broaddus.

Freshman midfielder Ricardo Chinea, Culverwell, junior midfielder Tomas Fanello, junior midfielder Diego Marti Perez and Stiles all had two shots in the game.

Monro made six saves in the contest.

CU ends the season with two straight road games, first with a contest against nationally-ranked Charleston 5:00 p.m. Friday.
