UNASSISTED GOALS
Freshman midfielder
Ricardo Chinea scored his second goal of the season as Concord fell to nationally-ranked Charleston last week. Both of Chinea's goals this spring have been unassisted after he tallied a score at West Virginia Wesleyan earlier in the season. Freshman defender
Sacha Everard also had an unassisted in CU's 1-0 win over Frostburg State. The only goal to be assisted for the Mountain Lions in 2021 is the double overtime goal at Wheeling in which junior midfielder
Adrian Cabello sent a corner kick to senior midfielder
Samuel Appiah for a score.
PLAYING THEM TOUGH
Concord will be seeking its first win over Notre Dame as MEC foes, dating back to the fall of 2013. While the Mountain Lions have had tough luck on the road, CU has had some close calls at home with the Falcons. Last season at home, senior goalkeeper
Kyle Brown made six saves as the Maroon and Gray lost 2-0, the latter goal coming in the 85
th minute. Going back to 2016, the Mountain Lions tied, 1-1, with NDC. Last season at Notre Dame, CU lost 4-1 as junior
Daniel Culverwell assisted on the first goal of the game in the 12
th minute.
LONG TRAVEL, NO PROBLEM
The Mountain Lions traveled nearly 350 miles to close the regular season. The previous longest trip of the season for Concord was the 270 miles to oppose Wheeling. Other than the loss on the road last week at Charleston, Concord has been tough on the road this season. CU had the aforementioned double overtime victory at Wheeling, and only fell at West Virginia State by a 2-1 margin. In another long trip near the end of last season, the Mountain Lions nearly knocked off Urbana, losing 3-2.
NOTRE DAME AT A GLANCE
The Falcons have been the only team in the MEC to stay stride for stride with Charleston this season as NDC led the Golden Eagles before allowing two late goals in a 2-1 loss. Notre Dame has only allowed six goals in seven games this season, second fewest in the conference. Individually, Filip Sparevec and Lukas Hackaa have three goals each to account for six of the 14 goals tallied by the Falcons in 2021. Arvid Engstrom is fifth in the MEC in saves with 16.
