ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team embarks on a four-game road trip as it faces Frostburg State 1:00 p.m. Saturday and Fairmont State 12:00 p.m. Sunday in a pair of Mountain East Conference doubleheaders.

RECORDS
Concord is 10-16 this season, and is 8-10 against MEC foes.
Frostburg State is 13-6 overall, and sports an 11-3 MEC record.
Fairmont State is 15-7 while posting an 11-7 mark in the MEC.

Laura Thompson and senior utility
Jenna Witt begin the weekend ranked in top six in the MEC in batting average. Witt is hitting .447 which is fourth in the MEC while Thompson's mark of .416 is sixth in the league. Witt is vying for her third straight full season of hitting .400 or better while Thompson is looking to become the first player—other than Witt—to hit .400 for a season since Lacey McDougall in 2014.  Thompson leads the MEC in runs scored (31), and is closing in on the top 10 in program history in runs scored. The Prince George, Virginia native has 102 career runs scored, four away from the top 10. Witt ranks first in the MEC in triples this season (five) while Thompson is second (three). FIGHTING THE FALCONS
The Mountain Lions won two of three meetings with Fairmont State in 2019, scoring 11 combined runs in the regular season sweep. Senior outfielder/pitcher
Darby Fitzpatrick went a combined 4-for-5 against FSU with three RBI. L. Thompson has tossed seven career innings versus Fairmont State and has allowed just two earned runs. Meanwhile, senior pitcher/outfielder
Cartney Schoolcraft tossed a complete game versus Fairmont State in 2019 as she struck out seven. Schoolcraft needs 13 strikeouts to break the program's all-time strikeout record. She enters the weekend with 259 career strikeouts. Concord and Fairmont State have alternated regular-season sweeps of each other the last two seasons—FSU won 14-9 and 8-5 at home in 2018.
PITCHING DUALS
Schoolcraft and L. Thompson both pitched two complete games over the weekend against West Liberty and Wheeling in what was some of their best performances of the 2021 season. Schoolcraft tossed 15 innings as she allowed three earned runs in two starts while striking out 15 combined batters. The Winfield, West Virginia native pitched CU's first shutout since March 8, 2020 as Concord defeated Wheeling, 8-0, Saturday. L. Thompson racked up 16 strikeouts in 14 innings over the weekend as she allowed four earned runs. The 16 strikeouts for Thompson are her most in a two-start stretch while Schoolcraft's 15 punch outs are the most since early April 2019 when she had 21 strikeouts in 15 innings. Tori Hanes will go up against the second and third-ranked teams in the MEC in terms of ERA. Fairmont State's team ERA is 2.51 while Frostburg State's ERA is 2.64.
FROSTBURG STATE AT A GLANCE
Shawna Leonard headlines the FSU pitching staff as she has a record of 6-2 and ERA of 1.55. Leonard has 53 strikeouts in her last 42 innings, covering six starts. Sam Carver is hitting .328 with two home runs and 14 RBI this season. The Bobcats have won four straight games with sweeps over Alderson Broaddus and Notre Dame since being swept by Fairmont State. Frostburg State plays a doubleheader with Notre Dame on Friday before welcoming the Mountain Lions Saturday.
FAIRMONT STATE AT A GLANCE
The duo of Cierra Chastain and Caitlyn Kassay spearhead the Fighting Falcons' pitching. Chastain sports an ERA of 1.29 with a 7-2 record. She has struck out 51 in 49 innings. Kassay's ERA is also under two (1.68) and she is allowing opponents to hit just .221 off her. Offensively, Emily Riggs is batting .450 with 10 RBI. The biggest power threat for Fairmont State is Andie Baughman who has slugged out four home runs to go with 22 RBI.
