BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Frostburg State Friday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at the YMCA Cline Complex.
Freshman defender
Sacha Everard broke through with a goal in the 28
th minute for his first career score in the Maroon and Gray to give CU (1-2) a 1-0 lead it would not relinquish over the next 62 minutes.
Making his first career start, freshman goalkeeper
Sean Monro preserved the halftime advantage with a save in the 35
th minute. Monro was asked to make just three saves on the afternoon, and just one in the second half—a stop in the 56
th minute. In fact, Frostburg State had just one shot after the 56
th minute.
Both teams took six shots in the first half with Concord owning a 10-8 overall advantage in shots for the game. CU had six shots on target to Frostburg State's three.
In addition to his game-winning goal in the first half, Everard was part of a defense that recorded Concord's first shutout since a clean sheet at West Liberty September 11, 2019.
Junior forward
Daniel Culverwell recorded a team-high four shots. Everard and junior midfielder
Diego Marti Perez each had three shots on goal. Everard accounted for two.
The Mountain Lions travel to Charleston 4:00 p.m. March 14.
