ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team lost in three sets to Davis & Elkins Thursday night in a Mountain East Conference match at the McDonnell Center.
first two sets went to the Senators (8-2) 25-17 while D&E took the third game, 25-23.
Set 1
Both teams could not pull away from the other, but a kill from sophomore middle hitter
Amber Hall gave Concord (0-8) a 13-12 edge. Davis & Elkins, though, scored five straight points, and seven of the next nine points to take a 21-15 lead.
Set 2
The Mountain Lions jumped up 9-7, and took a 16-13 edge after four straight points, including a kill each from junior middle hitter
Sheridan Herron and senior outside hitter
Kirsti Pouncy. Once again Davis & Elkins had an answer as it tied the set at 17-17, and scored eight straight to end the game.
Set 3
Concord fell behind 4-0 to start the third set, but quickly answered with a 5-0 run. With the teams trading points, CU scored seven straight points after being down 18-16. Included in the spurt to give the Mountain Lions the 23-18 advantage were two service aces by junior right side
Peyton Wiseman, and a kill from senior right side
Kenzie Coulter. Concord, however, was unable to sustain its lead as D&E fought back to win the set by two points.
Match Statistics
Pouncy had eight kills and nine digs. Senior defensive specialist
Lindsay Maddox totaled 22 digs while junior setter
Imani Rodgers racked up 14 assists.
The Mountain Lions play two matches against Glenville State Friday at the Carter Center, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
