ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team swept a doubleheader from Glenville State Friday night at the Carter Center.
The Mountain Lions (2-8) took the first match 25-16, 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-13 before winning a four-set match 25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 25-16
Match 1: Concord 3 – Glenville State 2
Set 1
The Mountain Lions were able to create some separation from GSC (0-10) at the halfway point of the first game as they opened up a 15-10 lead. Glenville State responded with four consecutive points, but CU scored seven consecutive points, including three service aces from senior outside hitter
Kirsti Pouncy.
Set 2
GSC opened up a 11-3 lead to start the game as the Mountain Lions charged hard near the end of the set to close within 22-19 after consecutive attack errors from the Pioneers. Glenville State held off CU further as it evened the match.
Set 3
Concord was the team that started the set fast as it ran out to a 7-2 edge. Glenville State was never able to get any closer than five points throughout the duration of the game as CU took a 2-1 overall lead.
Set 4
The fourth game was tight early, but GSC went up 14-9 with seven straight points. The Mountain Lions would get as close as 16-14 after one of a career-high 18 kills from junior middle hitter
Sheridan Herron. But the Pioneers answered the CU run to go up 21-15 on their way to forcing a fifth set.
Set 5
It appeared Concord would make quick work of the fifth set after starting on a 6-1 run, but Glenville State tied the set four different times, including at 13-13. Junior right side

Amber Hall both came up with kills to ensure a CU win in the fifth.
Match Statistics
Hall joined Herron with double-figure kills as she tallied 10 to go with Herron's 18. The duo also combined for eight total blocks.

Imani Rodgers posted a career-best 42 assists to go with a double-double of 12 digs. Senior defensive specialist
Lindsay Maddox recorded 19 digs.
The Mountain Lions hit .276 in the match with 59 total kills.
Match 2: Concord 3 – Glenville State 1
Set 1
Each time one team would get on a run to create a gap, the other would come back to even the score or take the lead. The Mountain Lions led by as much as four, 17-13, midway through the game, but was also down in the set, 23-22. Pouncy had back-to-back kills to push CU ahead, and a Glenville State attack error gave Concord a 1-0 lead.
Set 2
Concord made quick work of the second game as it led 10-1 and 17-5. GSC fought back to get within 19-11, but the Mountain Lions ensured themselves of a 2-0 edge in the match.
Set 3
Glenville State did not leave town without getting a game in nightcap as it rallied from a 19-16 deficit to pull even at 22-22. After CU tied the score at 23-23, the Pioneers won the final two points to force a fourth set.
Set 4
After some back-and-forth action early on, Concord created the separation it needed in the fourth game with a 6-0 run at 12-12. GSC never got closer than five points over the remainder of the match.
Match Statistics
Herron came up with a team-high 11 kills and five more blocks in the second match. She finished the two matches with 29 kills, nine blocks and a hitting percentage of .383. Hall added nine kills while Pouncy had seven kills and nine digs.
Rodgers posted 21 assists. Maddox tallied 16 digs while freshman defensive specialist
Jacklyn Markovitz registered a career-best 12 digs.
As a team, Concord tied it season best with 16 blocks.
Friday night concluded the winter season for the Mountain Lions. Â
