BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team scored four goals in less than six minutes in a 5-0 win over Wheeling Friday night in a Mountain East Conference game at the Cline Complex.
WU (1-4) was able to hold the Mountain Lions (3-1) in check over the first 40 minutes of the game, though Concord had five shots on goal in the first 30 minutes.
Concord broke through in the 44
th minute as sophomore defender
Zoe Belding tallied her second goal of the season. Right after the ensuing kickoff, senior midfielder
Yasmin Mosby gained control of the ball and threaded a pass into the penalty area where sophomore forward
Courtney Smith netted her second goal of the season, just 28 seconds after Belding's tally.
In the first three minutes of the second half, senior midfielder
Olivia Dougherty had a free kick saved, but Mosby pounced on the loose ball and scored her first of two goals in the game. The second goal for Mosby came 75 seconds later in the 49
th minute as she received a pass from sophomore midfielder
Ellie Hawcroft and scored from a sharp right angle.
Junior forward
Leah Foster capped the scoring in the 66
th as a bounding pass from Smith found its way into the box for a point blank heading goal for the Wigan, England native.
CU outshot Wheeling, 36-3, in the game while notching 21 shots on goal. Foster had six shots on goal while Mosby added another five.
The Mountain Lions travel to Charleston 7:00 p.m. Friday. Â
