CAREER NIGHT
CU lost in four sets to Charleston in the first match back on Thursday before being clipped in five sets by the Golden Eagles. However, three Mountain Lions stood out in the doubleheader. Junior middle hitter
Sheridan Herron tallied a career-best 13 kills in the first match as she hit .500 for the match. In the nightcap, sophomore middle hitter
Amber Hall posted her own career high with 19 kills—one better than the 18 kills she had in a five-set win against Frostburg in October 2019. In three matches last week, Hall had 42 kills and hit .433. Meanwhile, junior defensive specialist
Kelli Ellison racked up a career-best 22 digs in the second contest with Charleston as CU's starting libero.
MOVING ON UP
Junior setter
Imani Rodgers had 45 assists in two matches at Charleston to pull within seven assists of 1,000 for her career. The Virginia Beach, Virginia native passed Amanda Walker (2011-14) and Lauren Addington (2002) on the all-time list at Concord along the way, and is vying to become the ninth player in program history with 1,000 career assists. She would also be the fifth player to achieve the milestone under head coach
Kate Dillon, joining
Casey Mandeville, Helen Thiesen, Nikki McMillan and
Jenna Mounts. Senior defensive specialist
Lindsay Maddox needs 21 digs to pass Diane Miller (1986-89) for seventh on the all-time digs list at Concord. Maddox starts the week with 1,378 digs.
SECOND TIME AROUND
While Concord will be entertaining Glenville State for the first time this season in Friday's doubleheader, CU has already opposed Davis & Elkins and Wesleyan. The Mountain Lions opened up the season by falling in four sets to D&E. Senior outside hitter
Kirsti Pouncy had her first career double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs against the Senators. Hall added 12 kills, and Maddox a season-best 25 digs. At Wesleyan on February 9, Herron began her recent run of strong play. Over the last four matches, Herron has rolled up 35 kills with a hitting percentage of .329 to go with 10 blocks. The Jonesville, Virginia native ranks eighth in the MEC in hitting percentage at .293, right behind Hall who is seventh at .308.
GOING THE DISTANCE
Concord and Glenville State split two meetings in the fall of 2019 with the road team winning each time. CU picked up a straight sets victory against the Pioneers with two of the three being decided by two points. Rodgers had 20 assists on the road, and Hall added nine kills. At home, Concord was edged by GSC in five sets. Junior right side
Kenzie Coulter, Hall and Herron each had 12 kills, which was a career best for Herron before last week. Rodgers notched 31 assists.
THE OPPONENTS AT A GLANCE
West Virginia Wesleyan is led by the tandem of Alexis Tatum and Peyton Hefner. Tataum ranks ninth in the MEC in kills per set at 3.2 while Hefner's 7.7 assists per set are seventh best in the conference. Four of the eight matches for Wesleyan this season have gone to least four sets, including three five-game matches.
Macie Magallon paces the Davis & Elkins attack as she ranks second in the MEC in kills per set, 4.6. The Senators have only dropped two sets in four home matches this season. D&E's .200 team hitting percentage is third in the conference.
Glenville State is allowing opponents to hit .291 this season. Kylie Williams is 10
th in the MEC in digs per set at 3.9. Karlei Shaver had 29 kills and 14 digs in GSC's five-set victory at Concord a season ago. Skylar Mace added 20 kills.
