INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team lost in three sets to West Virginia State Friday night in a Mountain East Conference match at the Walker Convocation Center.
CU fell 25-18, 25-15, 25-11. The Mountain Lions are 0-2 in 2021 while WVSU moves to 2-0.
Set 1
West Virginia State scored five of the first six points of the match, but Concord was unfazed as the Mountain Lions climbed back into the game, 12-10, after a kill from senior outside hitter
Kirsti Pouncy. After three straight points from WVSU, Concord once again had an answer after a kill from sophomore middle hitter
Amber Hall to make the score 17-14. However, the Yellow Jackets finished the set on an 8-4 run.
Set 2
With the game tied at 6-6 after a kill from junior right side
Peyton Wiseman, West Virginia State slowly pulled away from CU to take a 16-9 advantage. Concord scored three of the next four points including another kill from Wiseman and a service ace from Pouncy, but was unable to get closer than five points for the remainder of the set.
Set 3
WVSU opened up the set by scoring eight of the first 10 points as it pulled away from Concord to win the match in straight sets.

Hall and junior middle hitter
Sheridan Herron each finished with six kills in the match. Senior defensive specialist Linday Maddox racked up 16 digs while junior setter
Imani Rodgers collected 16 assists. Pouncy added three service aces.
The Mountain Lions finish up a two-match road trip at West Virginia Wesleyan 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
