Concord Falls at West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team lost 2-1 to West Virginia Wesleyan Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference matchup at Cebe Ross Field.

All three goals in the game were scored after halftime.

Senior goalkeeper Kyle Brown made five saves in the first half, marking the fifth time in the last six games that Brown has had at least five saves in a contest. Sophomore midfielder Michael Shelor had CU's lone shot in the first half that missed high from the edge of the penalty area.

The Bobcats (2-0) scored two times just five minutes apart in the second half to take a 2-0 lead as they found the net in the 56th and 60th minutes.

However, freshman midfielder Ricardo Chinea trimmed the lead back to a goal with his first career score in the 72nd minute after a WVWC turnover on the edge of the penalty area. The Helsby, England native was able to control the ball on the left side of the penalty area, dribbled down near the seven-yard box and beat the goalkeeper to the far side post for the goal.

Over the final 18 minutes of the game, Concord took four free kicks but was unable to get a shot on frame.

Freshman goalkeeper Sean Monro made two second-half saves in relief of Brown.

The Mountain Lions return home Friday to host Frostburg State 4:00 p.m. in Beckley, West Virginia the YMCA Paul Cline Complex.
