Concord Loses Double Overtime Game to Davis & Elkins

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to Davis & Elkins in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Cline Stadium in Mountain East Conference action.

D&E (1-0) scored in the 104th minute to grab the win.

The lone shot in the first half for the Mountain Lions (0-1) was from junior forward Daniel Culverwell that was saved by the Davis & Elkins goalkeeper in the 35th minute

Senior goalkeeper Kyle Brown made three saves in the first 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless. The Warren, Ohio native was forced to make three more saves in the first 10 minutes of the second half to keep the Senators out of the goal.

Neither team posed a serious scoring threat in the latter stages of the second half, sending the contest into overtime.

Sophomore defender Jesse Kannekens sent a free kick high in the first overtime, and freshman midfielder Robbie Stiles forced a save from Davis & Elkins' goalkeeper Jeremy Coste in the 102nd minute.

Two minutes later D&E got behind the CU defense for the game-winning goal.

Brown stopped seven shots on the day, and saw 14 total shots come his way. Culverwell and Stiles accounted for Concord shots on goal.

The Mountain Lions travel to West Virginia Wesleyan 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
