ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team lost in three sets to Davis & Elkins, 25-19, 27-25, 25-17, Friday night in Mountain East Conference action at the McDonnell Center.
Set 1
The Mountain Lions (7-16, 3-11 MEC) were within 8-6 of D&E (13-12, 10-4 MEC) after a kill from junior middle hitter
Amber Hall, but a 6-0 spurt from the Senators opened up a 14-6 lead. Concord was able to close to five points of Davis & Elkins, but could not cut the deficit any closer.
Set 2
Down 14-9 in the middle game, CU rattled off five straight points as it took advantage of four D&E errors. Freshman outside hitter
Hannah Steele added a kill during the spurt as well. Trailing 22-19, Concord tied the game on kills from Steele and senior middle hitter
Sheridan Herron and a service ace from senior setter
Imani Rodgers. A kill from Herron knotted the set at 25-25, but two straight D&E points closed the game.
Set 3
The Senators jumped out to a 9-4 lead before the Mountain Lions rallied to tie the set at 12-12. Hall, Steele and sophomore middle hitter
Csayjah Whitelow all had kills during the 8-3 spurt. However, Davis & Elkins answered with a 4-0 run as the set was never tied again.
Match Stats
Hall and Steele each had nine kills. Steele just missed a double-double with 10 digs. Herron netted six kills and three blocks. Senior defensive specialist
Kelli Ellison recorded 21 digs.
The Mountain Lions have a quick turnaround at Winston-Salem State 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
