SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio. – The Concord University men's soccer team (2-14, 2-12 MEC) fell to Notre Dame, 3-0 Wednesday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Mueller Field.
The best scoring opportunity for CU came in the seventh minute when the Mountain Lions drew a foul in the box setting up a penalty kick opportunity for freshman defender
Ted Penn. However, Notre Dame (9-3-2, 8-3-2 MEC) goalkeeper Pedro Alves dove to punch the shot away and keep the game scoreless.
The Falcons would score in the 35
th minute to go up 1-0. In the 41
st minute, Notre Dame looked to have an open goal opportunity, however, freshman defender
Esteban Correa slid in front of the shot to deflect it out of bounds and keep it a one-score game.
The Falcons grabbed momentum coming out of halftime and scored a goal in the 51
st minute. The Mountain Lions didn't have a response for the rest of the game, having one shot in the second half off the foot of Penn. NDC scored in the 84
th minute for the final margin of victory.
Penn led CU in shots with two. Senior goalkeeper
Kyle Brown had 10 saves in the match.
Concord faces Charleston at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex in Beckley W. Va. Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
