Charleston improved to 2-1 with a 63-61 victory over Elizabeth City State Wednesday.

SHARING IS CARING
The Mountain Lions dished out 23 assists in the win over Bluefield State, marking the second time this season that the Maroon and Gray has posted 20 or more assists. CU had 21 assists in the overtime loss to Pitt-Johnstown to begin the season. Fifth-year senior guard Matt Weir just missed a double-double with 10 points and eight assists against BSC. The Nashport, Ohio native ranks 20th in Division II in assists with 6.3 per game. The 23 assists versus Bluefield State represented the most for CU since February 2020 against Wheeling when it had 24, and the 56 assists in the first three games of the season are the most for a three-game stretch since February 2020 against Wheeling, West Liberty and Davis & Elkins.

INSIDE FORCE
Senior forward Da'Vion Moore hammered down five dunks against Bluefield State as five of his nine field goals came on dunks. Moore posted a career-best 20 points versus the Big Blues. Additionally, Moore's 90 percent (9-of-10) shooting from the floor was the third highest field-goal percentage in a Division II game this season where at least 10 field goals were attempted. Junior guard Jevon Laidler threw two lobs to Moore including a game-sealing dunk with 44 seconds left to push CU up 92-87. In the first two games of the season, the Mount Clemens, Michigan native had only scored six points before Tuesday's explosion. Moore also had four of Concord's seven blocks in the game. It was the first four-block game for a CU player since Aaron Miller in January 2017. The seven blocks for Concord as a team was the most since March 2020 against West Liberty.

MULTIPLE OPTIONS
The Mountain Lions had five different players in double figures in Tuesday's led by Moore's 20 points. Junior guard Ethan Heller pitched in 16 points with 12 of the 16 coming in the final 23 minutes of the game. Fifth-year senior forward Lual Daniel Rahama chipped in 13. Sophomore guard Jordan Wooden notched his first career double-digit scoring game with 11 points, all in the first half, off the bench, and Weir added his 10. Dating back to last season, it was the second time in the last 11 games Concord had five players in double-figures.

MAKING IT A HOME BASE
Concord has won three of its last four trips to Charleston, including a 64-62 win to open the shortened 2021 season. The Mountain Lions trailed just once in last season's game at UC, 2-0. Heller dropped in 18 points and hit a critical free throw to stretch the lead to two points before the Mountain Lions got a stop on the defensive end to steal the win. In January 2019, All-American guard Tommy Bolte went for 65 points in a double overtime Concord win and the year before CU erased a double-digit second-half deficit to pick off Charleston, 77-72. Head coach Todd May is 7-4 in his career versus Charleston, including sweeping the Golden Eagles in 2018-19.

TEMPO TIME
In back-to-back wins, Charleston has scored 62 and 63 points. Meanwhile, CU has scored 90 or more in two of three games this season. The 261 points that Concord has scored are the most to begin a season since 2015-16 when Concord posted 278 points in a 3-0 start. The Mountain Lions are averaging 76 field-goal attempts per game while Charleston is only shooting the ball 52 times per contest. With the limited possessions, the Golden Eagles are still shooting 47.8 percent from the field. However, Charleston is averaging 16 turnovers per game while Concord is forcing just under 15 per game in 2021-22.
