BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team fell short against Alderson Broaddus 2-1 Sunday in a Mountain East Conference matchup at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex.
The Battlers were the first to strike when Angel De Avila got behind the CU defense and scored in the 36
th minute of the match. Concord had eight shots in the first half but could not manage to find the back of the net.
The best first-half chance came in a sequence as sophomore forward
Robbie Stiles' blocked shot ended up on the foot of freshman defender
Esteban Correa who hit the crossbar in the 29
th minute.

Piyo Debesay drew a foul to set up a free kick in offensive territory. Freshman defender
Ted Penn chipped a perfect pass into the box where junior defender
Daniel Haworth headed the ball into the net to tie the game. The goal was Haworth's first of the season, and Penn was credited with his third assist of the fall.
Alderson Broaddus took the lead back three minutes later from a goal scored off of a header that was played in from a free kick just outside the penalty area.

Kyle Brown had a total of six saves. Debesay led the team in shots with three. Correa, Haworth and freshman midfielder
Alex Horstmann all had two shots. Concord as a whole had 13 shots in the match.
Concord travels to South Euclid, Ohio to face Notre Dame Wednesday at 12:00 pm.
