ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team fell in three sets, 25-18, 25-13, 25-13, to West Virginia State Tuesday night in a Mountain East Conference match inside the Carter Center.
Set 1
The Yellow Jackets (21-3, 9-1 MEC) went on a 9-2 run to open up a 15-8 lead after the opening game was tied at 6-6. Down 22-11, CU (5-14, 1-9 MEC) answered by scoring seven of the next nine points to climb back within six, 24-18. Freshman outside hitter
Hannah Steele had three kills during the spurt while sophomore setter
Kristin Lough and sophomore middle hitter
Csayjah Whitelow each had a service ace. WVSU was able to close the set though.
Set 2
Concord fell behind 12-5 in the middle game was never able to get any closer.
Set 3
The Mountain Lions tied the third game four different times, but could not take the lead from WVSU as West Virginia State closed out a 12-point set win.
Match Stats
Steele posted a match-high 12 kills to go with seven digs. Senior middle hitter
Sheridan Herron notched five kills and hit .364 in the contest. Senior setter
Imani Rodgers tallied 11 assists and senior defensive specialist
Kelli Ellison added 11 digs.
CU begins a two-match road trip 7:00 p.m. Thursday against Notre Dame.
