BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team was edged 2-1 Wednesday night in a Mountain East Conference game at the YMCA Cline Complex.
The two goals of the game, and the decisive goal for the Bobcats (5-5-1, 5-5 MEC) came in the final 10 minutes.
FSU started the game with a score in the 15
th minute, and the 1-0 advantage held up into the second half until junior midfielder
Michael Shelor scored in the 81
st minute for CU (0-11, 0-9 MEC).
Junior midfielder
Ben Greear sent a free kick into the box where sophomore defender
Ezequiel Villarreal's initial attempt was saved off the line, but Shelor's follow found the back of the net to tie the game.
It was Shelor's second goal of the season.
A Frostburg State shot went wide in the 83
rd minute, but a scramble in front of the net with less than a minute left to go in regulation led to a Bobcats' goal for the final margin of victory.
The Mountain Lions were outshot, 14-6, in the game, but each team had three shots on goal. Villarreal had a first-half blast from 35 yards away to go along with his attempt off the CU free kick. Sophomore midfielder
