BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team picked up a 3-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference contest at Culpepper Stadium.
The final three goals of the game belonged to the Mountain Lions (1-11, 1-9 MEC) as they answered a WVWC (6-5-1, 4-5-1 MEC) goal in the seventh minute.
Junior midfielder
Michael Shelor tallied the first goal of the contest for CU after a goal kick was deflected into the attacking third of the field. Shelor, then, chipped in his third score of 2021. The Mountain Lions needed just 12 more minutes to take their first lead of the afternoon.

th minute, sophomore forward
Piyo Debesay converted a penalty kick after a Wesleyan handball on the edge of the penalty box.
Into the second half, Concord's goal margin held up, though, senior goalkeeper
Kyle Brown was forced to make all four of his saves after halftime.
With less than a minute left in the contest, the Maroon and Gray added an insurance goal as freshman defender
Ted Penn and senior midfielder
Tomas Fanello played a combination up the right flank. Penn fired a sharp angle shot that found the back of the net while Fanello picked up the assist.
Sunday was the first goals of the season for Debasey and Penn while Fanello tallied his second point of the fall.
The Bobcats held a 14-9 advantage in shots, but WVWC only had one more shot on goal than Concord, 5-4. Debasey and Penn each had two shots for CU.
Concord returns home to face nationally-ranked Davis & Elkins 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in Beckley.
