Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Concord and Fairmont State Battle to 0-0 Tie

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Fairmont State Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at the YMCA Cline Complex.

CU (9-0-2, 7-0-2 MEC) controlled a vast portion of the game as it outshot the Fighting Falcons (2-6-1, 2-5-1 MEC) 25-5 in the game.

Senior forward Leah Foster clanged two shots off the iron in the first half as her 16th minute shot hit the crossbar and 44th minute shot rang off the left post. Foster hit the crossbar again in the 61st minute.

Right after the Foster shot, senior goalkeeper Leah Marsh was called into action to save a rising shot from Fairmont State in the 64th minute to keep the game scoreless.

It appeared as though junior forward Rachel Bell may break through in the 76th minute when her rising shot was tipped over the crossbar by FSU goalkeeper Taylor Kennedy.

Kennedy denied two more chances in the first overtime as Bell was turned away in the 94th minute and freshman defender Leah Fleming had her shot saved in the 98th minute.

Foster accounted for 10 total shot with four on target and another three hitting bars or posts. Junior defender Zoe Belding and Bell each had two shots on goal in the draw.

Marsh made four saves. CU had eight corner kicks and held Fairmont State without a corner.

Concord will be off for a week before facing a road test at West Virginia Wesleyan 7:00 p.m. October 17.
