FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team was edged in overtime, 90-85, at Fairmont State in a Mountain East Conference contest at Joe Retton Arena Wednesday night.
Up 72-55 with 5:34 left in the fourth quarter, CU (3-3) watched Fairmont State finish the period on a 22-5 run to force overtime.
In the extra session, the teams traded buckets as the score was knotted at 79, 81, 83 and 85 before the Fighting Falcons (3-4) scored the final five points of overtime to hold on for a five-point win. Freshman guard
Maddie Ratcliff scored four of the eight Concord points in overtime.
CU opened up a 26-21 lead after 10 minutes as Ratcliff beat the first-quarter buzzer with a three-pointer to stretch the lead to five. The triple jumpstarted the momentum as the Mountain Lions started the second period on a 12-4 run, and led 51-35 at halftime, after shooting a sizzling 59.4 percent in the first 20 minutes.
Concord maintained a double-digit lead throughout the duration of the third quarter, and during the first 7:32 of the fourth quarter before Fairmont State cut the CU margin to 73-66 with 2:28 left in regulation.
Junior guard
Riley Fitzwater led the scoring for the Mountain Lions with 20 points on 9-for-11 shooting, but played just 19 minutes before fouling out. Ratcliff's strong finish helped her notch a career-best 18 points.
Freshman guard
Jaisah Smith posted 11 points and collected eight rebounds. Junior guard
Maggie Guynn added 11 points.
Senior guard

Gracie Robinson combined for 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists with Robinson also scoring 11. Senior forward
Tamra Scott notched a team-best 10 rebounds.
CU welcomes Frostburg State to the Carter Center 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
