ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Athletic Department is saddened to learn of the passing of 2002 Concord Hall of Fame inductee Don Mikush.

Mikush, a two-sport standout in both men's basketball and baseball for the Mountain Lions, played at Concord from 1952-56.

On the hardwood, Mikush was a two-time All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) First Team selection during his junior and senior seasons of 1954-55 and 1955-56. He was also picked to the All-WVIAC Tournament Team in 1955, and he helped Concord to its first national postseason berth in 1954.

Mikush still ranks seventh in men's basketball program history in scoring with 1,862 career points.

As a member of the Concord baseball team from 1953-1956, Mikush was the starting shortstop on the 1954 WVIAC Championship team. That particular Concord team was the first conference championship squad for the Mountain Lions regardless of sport.

"Don was a standout student-athlete on some very successful teams during his time in Athens," Concord University Director of Athletics Kevin Garrett said. "We appreciate everything he did for Concord, and we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family during this time."

A native of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Mikush resided in Jacksonville, Florida at the time of his death.
