ATHENS, W.Va. – Throughout the fall semester, the Concord University Sports Information Department will be looking back at different events and games that has shaped Concord Athletics to what it is today in a "On This Day" segment.
On this day in 2015, Cade Rogers of the Concord University football team became the first player in program to earn Academic All-American honors in 23 years, and the first to be named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).
Rogers graduated from Concord with a GPA near 4.0, and at the time of his recognition of academic success he had a 3.95 in recreation and tourism management.
The Sparks, Nevada native finished his career with 93 career tackles in 22 career games, including 10 tackles for loss. Additionally, he had four sacks—all in 2014—one interception and eight pass break-ups. During the 2015 season, Rogers piled up 48 tackles and two tackles for loss.
As a junior-college transfer in 2014, Rogers had 45 tackles, eight stops for loss and four sacks for the 13-1 Super Region One Champion Mountain Lions.
Overall, Rogers was the fifth Academic All-American in program history.
