ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Concord University volleyball team came up short in two matches at the Seawolf Invite hosted by Alaska-Anchorage on Saturday evening.
Match 1: Regis 3 – Concord 0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-12)
The Mountain Lions played the Denver-based Rangers tough in the first set as CU scored four of the first points of the match, but a 15-8 run from Regis gave it a 16-12 lead.
Concord was able to get back within two points, 17-15, with the help of a kill from freshman middle hitter
Amber Hall, but it was the closest CU would get the rest of the game.
The momentum from the middle part of the first set carried over for RU to the second and third games as it jumped out to 12-2 and 19-7 leads, respectively, in the second and third sets to win the match.
Hall tallied a team-best six kills in the match. Sophomore right side
Camryn Huber and junior outside hitter
Kirsti Pouncy each had five kills.
Senior setter Jenna Mount had 13 assists.
Match 2: Concord 3 – Biola 1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-12, 25-14)
After some back-and-forth in the first set that went to Biola, Concord battled back and took the second set by five points.
The Mountain Lions were able to pull ahead with a 7-1 run that opened up a 19-13 lead in the second game. Hall had two kills during the run. Concord kept BU from getting closer than five points over the remainder of the game.
Biola went on a run at 7-5 to go up 12-5 in the third game as Concord trailed 2-1 in the match after the third set.
The Eagles scored 14 of the first 20 points in the fourth game to pull away from CU in the fourth set.
Hall racked up nine kills in the contest. Pouncy added eight.
Mounts notched 12 assists while sophomore setter
Imani Rodgers had 11 assists.
Junior defensive specialist
Lindsay Maddox recorded 16 digs while senior defensive specialist
Erin Shannon added 14 digs. And Shannon also went over 1,500 career digs in the match.
The Mountain Lions begin play at the Concord Classic 11:00 a.m. Thursday against Ohio Valley.
