Concord Finishes Fourth at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. –The Concord University men's cross country team finished fourth at the Hokie Invite hosted by Virginia Tech Friday night.

The race served as the season opener for the Mountain Lions as they scored 117 points. Virginia Tech won the meet with 30 points. Jason Weitzel, who will have track eligibility at Concord for the indoor and outdoor seasons, won the meet with a time of 18:28 for 6,000-meters.

CU's top runner was sophomore Isaac Prather who placed 19th with a time of 19:25. Sophomore Cedric Drennen and freshman Nate Leichner crossed right beside each other as Drenenn was 27th and Leichner was 28th. Drennen clocked a time of 19:59 while Leichner finished in 20:00.

Junior Samuel Haynes followed in 32nd with a showing of 20:05. The scoring runners for CU was rounded out with junior Samuel Thomas finishing 40th with a time of 20:36. Freshman John Casey was 51st (21:26) while fellow freshman Jacob Lindsay was 53rd (21:27).

The next three Mountain Lions to finish were junior Andrew Barbera (21:35), freshman Alex Watty (21:50) and junior Trevor Armes (22:06).

CU travels to the Roanoke College Invite next Saturday, September 14.
