BLACKSBURG, Va. –The Concord University men's cross country team finished fourth at the
Hokie Invite hosted by Virginia Tech Friday night.
The race served as the season opener for the Mountain Lions as they scored 117 points. Virginia Tech won the meet with 30 points.
Jason Weitzel, who will have track eligibility at Concord for the indoor and outdoor seasons, won the meet with a time of 18:28 for 6,000-meters.
CU's top runner was sophomore
Isaac Prather who placed 19
th with a time of 19:25. Sophomore
Cedric Drennen and freshman
Nate Leichner crossed right beside each other as Drenenn was 27
th and Leichner was 28
th. Drennen clocked a time of 19:59 while Leichner finished in 20:00.
Junior
Samuel Haynes followed in 32
nd with a showing of 20:05. The scoring runners for CU was rounded out with junior
Samuel Thomas finishing 40
th with a time of 20:36. Freshman
John Casey was 51
st (21:26) while fellow freshman
Jacob Lindsay was 53
rd (21:27).
The next three Mountain Lions to finish were junior
Andrew Barbera (21:35), freshman
Alex Watty (21:50) and junior
Trevor Armes (22:06).
CU travels to the Roanoke College Invite next Saturday, September 14.
