CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Concord University volleyball team fell in two matches at the Lee Invite Saturday afternoon.
Concord is now 2-9 on the season. Shepherd took all three sets from the Mountain Lions while Emmanuel clipped CU in four sets.
Match 1: Shepherd 3 – Concord 0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-15)
Shepherd hit .333 for the game as the Rams got by Concord in three sets.
After SU won game one and controlled the early portion of the second set on the strength of a 6-1 run, Concord stormed back with a 14-10 run to close with 16-15. Freshman middle hitter

Camryn Huber and
Olivia Houk each had two kills to key the spurt.
But, the Rams came back to score four of the next six points to win the second set.
Shepherd won broke an early 3-3 tie with a 5-1 run to win the third set.
Junior outside hitter
Kirsti Pouncy tallied a team-best six kills while adding 10 digs. Senior defensive specialist
Erin Shannon notched 11 digs.
Match 2: Emmanuel 3 – Concord 1 (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 27-25)
The Mountain Lions and EC were separated by just five points throughout the duration of the match as CU was unable to come back from the 2-0 deficit.
In the second set, Concord had a 20-19 lead after a service ace from senior setter
Jenna Mounts, but Emmanuel scored three straight points to steal the set from the Mountain Lions.
Tied at 10-10 in the third set, CU tallied four straight points on two kills and two more attack errors from EC. This time, CU did not allow the Lions to take a lead as it held off a furious Emmanuel rally late in the game.
The Mountain Lions appeared they may force a decisive fifth set as they held a 25-24 lead, but Emmanuel recorded three straight points to win the game and the set.
Mounts had a double-double of 28 assists and 10 digs as she went over 1,500 career assists in the match. Freshman middle hitter
Amber Hall collected 11 kills while freshman outside hitter Hailey
Buchanan added 10 kills.
Shannon had 31 digs. Junior defensive specialist
Lindsay Maddox chipped in 21 digs.
CU will have an elongated break with its next match not coming until October 1 at UVa.-Wise.
