CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Concord University volleyball team lost a pair of matches to open play at the Lee Invite Friday.

CU is now 2-7 on the season while Concord's first opponent, Lee, improves to 5-3 on the season. Shepherd, the second CU opposition of the day, is now 10-0.Â

Match 1: Lee 3 – Concord 1 (25-9, 25-15, 15-25, 25-15)
After hitting below .100 in the first two sets, the Mountain Lions bounced in the third set to force a fourth game, but came up short in forcing a fifth set.Â

Concord jumped out to a 10-4 advantage in the fourth set and never let its advantage slip below five points throughout the remainder of the game. In the fourth set, junior outside hitter
Kirsti Pouncy paced CU with five kills as the Mountain Lions outhit Lee .313 to .275.Â

CU was unable to carry the momentum over to the fourth game as the Flames hit .200 to take the set.Â

With the strong third set, Pouncy tied sophomore middle hitter
Camryn Huber for the team high in kills with six.Â

Senior defensive specialist
Erin Shannon tallied 27 digs while junior defensive specialist
Lindsay Maddox added 17 digs. Senior setter
Jenna Mounts collected 14 assists.Â

Match 2: Shepherd 3 – Concord 0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-12)
CU started strong and kept pace with the Rams through the first set. Tied at 14-14 in the game, Shepherd rattled off a 7-1 run to create separation and win the set.Â

Concord saw SU carry the momentum of the first game over to the second set as Shepherd scored 10 of the first 15 points of the second game.Â

In the third game, the Rams reeled off the first seven points of the set.Â
Â
Pouncy went for a team-best seven kills. Mounts notched 17 assists and is now 16 assists away from reaching 1,500 for her career.Â

The Mountain Lions play Shepherd at the Lee Invite once again 10:00 a.m. Saturday followed by a match with Emmanuel College at 12:15 p.m.Â
