BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Senior pitcher
Will Guay of the Concord University baseball team has been voted as the Mountain East Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Guay recorded a three-hit shutout of UVa.-Wise on Friday as the Mountain Lions were chasing a Mountain East Conference Tournament bid. Guay struck out 11 including seven of the first nine batters he faced. Additionally, the West Palm Beach, Florida native retired 11 straight batters to open the game as the Mountain Lions went on to win 8-0.
Guay needed just 94 pitches to fire his second consecutive shutout after blanking Charleston in a two-hit shutout the previous weekend.
The senior joins fellow senior
Troy Beckner as Mountain Lion pitchers to win MEC Pitcher of the Week honors this season after Beckner earned the distinction during the first week of March.
Shepherd's Brenton Doyle was the MEC Player of the Week.
By sweeping UVa.-Wise in a four-game set over the weekend, Concord qualified for the MEC Tournament for a 22
ndstraight season and opens up the postseason 7:00 p.m. Thursday against Notre Dame at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, West Virginia.
