SALEM, Va. – The Concord University softball team was unable to overcome three late runs by Fairmont State as it lost its opening game of the Mountain East Conference, 4-1, Friday afternoon at the Moyer Sports Complex.

Skylar Jenkins to keep the game scoreless early.
The Fighting Falcons (26-21) plated a run in the third, but CU (34-18) matched the score in the bottom half as freshman utility

Jenna Witt put together consecutive two-hits with Thompson scoring on Witt's 70
th hit of the season.
The game remained tied until the top of the fifth when Fairmont State scored with two outs after a Concord error. Two more FSU runs crossed in the top of the seventh.
The Mountain Lions were able to get a base runner in the bottom of the inning, but could not piece a rally together in the setback.

Dani Bloomingdale and senior catcher/first baseman
Lauren Blunt. L. Thompson (7-6) was charged with the loss as she pitched four innings and gave up two runs (one earned) while striking out two.
Due to heavy rain, Concord's Friday night elimination game against UVa.-Wise as pushed to 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Moyer Sports Complex.
