SIT 'EM DOWN
Senior pitcher
Troy Beckner struck out 10 batters in his start on Monday as he moved within three strikeouts of passing
Ryan Weatherholtz for first on the all-time strikeout list at Concord. It was the second time this season and third time in his career the Roanoke, Virginia native has recorded double-digit strikeouts. In Tuesday's win at Ohio Valley, sophomore pitcher
Spencer Hoyt fanned 10 batters as he became the fourth CU starter this season to record 10 strikeouts in a game, joining Beckner, senior pitcher
Will Guay and sophomore pitcher
Logan Morrison. The CU pitching staff leads the MEC in strikeouts with 290 and could join last year's team which struck out 319 batters as the only pitching staffs in program history to record 300 strikeouts in a single season.
HOT STICK
In their careers, Clark (.342), Divers (.350) and Webb (.346) are all hitting better than .340 against Charleston in their careers while Clark has added three career home runs. Clark had two home runs in the Glenville State series as he moved into third all-time in home runs at CU with 34. Additionally, the Scott Depot, West Virginia native keeps marching towards 200 career RBI as he has 193 for his career. Clark has at least one RBI in four straight games and five of his last six contests.
LET'S RUN
This weekend's series will pit two of the best base stealing teams in the MEC against each other. Charleston leads the league in stolen bases by a wide margin with 96 steals. Meanwhile, CU is second with 53. Stehlin is the team leader for Concord with 13 steals in 16 chances. Jordan Bailey and Gianfranco Morello have each stolen 18 bases for Charleston. One of the biggest factors in controlling the running game could be Clark behind the plate for the Mountain Lions. This season, Clark has thrown out 13-of-28 base runners which leads the MEC by percentage and trails only Fairmont State's Tyler Hill (14) for most overall. The UC catching duo of Drew Hefner and Nick Wilson have combined to throw out nine base runners in 51 chances.
CHARLESTON AT A GLANCE
The Golden Eagles have won all their MEC series this season with the exception of two-game splits with Fairmont State and Shepherd and most recently a four-game split with UVa.-Wise. In 24 MEC games, Charleston sports a conference ERA of 3.76 with all four weekend starters below four. Overall, Jack Brunetti and Austin Henrich are a combined 12-3 on the mound. Colby Johnson leads UC in average (.362), home runs (eight) and RBI (40). As a two-way player, Brunetti has three home runs and 34 RBI.
