GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team used a nine-run sixth inning to erase a 4-0 deficit on its way to an 11-7 non-conference win over Clarion Friday night in the MEC-PSAC Mixer at the Sue Morris Complex.
Clarion (4-5) plated two runs in the second and added two more unearned runs in the fourth to jump on Concord (1-1), 4-0.
With just two base runners through five innings, the Mountain Lions got the offense going in the sixth inning. Sophomore infielder
Anthony Stehlin, senior infielder
Brett Simmons and senior outfielder
Evan Webb drew three consecutive one-out walks to start the rally. Senior catcher
Jordan Clark came to the plate and singled into right field to cut the CU deficit in half. Two batters later, the bases were reloaded for junior catcher
Jakob Divers who punched his own two-run single into right field.
The outburst continued as junior infielder
Nathan Neff and senior infielder
Ian Southcott each recorded RBI hits. An error and a wild pitch allowed Concord to up the advantage to 8-4 before Simmons capped the rally with an RBI single into right field.
The nine runs were plenty for sophomore pitcher
Logan Morrison who had an exceptional start. The Luray, Virginia native tossed six innings to earn the win as he struck out a career-best 10 batters. Morrison scattered six hits on four runs (two earned) over his time on the mound.
Stehlin, freshman pitcher
Bailey McFatridge and junior outfielder
Adam Linkous combined for the final nine outs of the game.
CU tacked on two more runs in the seventh as Linkous and Neff accounted for the RBI.
Clark, Divers and Neff all had two RBI in the contest as Clark and Neff each went 2-for-4 with a double. Simmons and Webb combined to draw six walks and score three runs in the
contest.
Concord finishes up play at the MEC-PSAC Mixer with a game against Mansfield 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
