Concord Downs Wheeling Jesuit, Osborne Picks Up 250th Win

ATHENS, W.Va. – By outscoring Wheeling Jesuit, 24-9, in the second quarter, the Concord women's basketball team picked up a home victory 68-51 Thursday evening in Mountain East Conference play at the Carter Center.

The Mountain Lions (17-4, 12-3 MEC) got off to a slow start as they trailed the majority of the first quarter including a 14-12 deficit after 10 minutes to Wheeling Jesuit (3-18, 1-14 MEC).

Tied at 18 with 6:11 remaining in the first half, Concord went on a 14-2 run to lead 32-20. Junior forward Madison May scored seven of her 11 points during the run while sophomore guard Savannah Dunford added a three-pointer.

Dunford would add a second three-pointer in the quarter as Concord took a 36-23 lead into halftime.

Wheeling Jesuit trimmed its deficit down to seven points in the final 90 seconds of the third quart, but Dunford beat the third quarter clock with yet another three-pointer to increase the lead to 10, 52-42.

The Mountain Lions built its lead up to as much as 22 points as Pool scored a layup with 2:18 left in the contest. The Cardinals were able trim the deficit under 20 points but could not come back as the Mountain Lions defeated the Cardinals 68-51.

Pool had 23 points for her third straight 20-point game and four steals. Sophomore forward Maggie Guynn was also in double-figures with May and Pool.

Sophomore forward Tamra Scott had a team-high ten rebounds in the contest.

Sophomore forward Riley Fitzwater tallied five blocks and achieved her 200th career block.

Head coach Kenny Osborne celebrated his 250th Concord win.

The Mountain Lions welcome West Liberty 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Carter Center.
