URBANA, Ohio – The Concord University women's basketball team overcame a double-digit first half deficit as it secured a 59-54 win over Urbana at the Grimes Center in Mountain East Conference play Saturday afternoon.
The Mountain Lions (21-5, 16-4 MEC) fell behind 16-9 after the first quarter and faced a 22-9 deficit early in the second period before it mounted a rally. CU was able to work the deficit under 10 points at halftime as it trailed 32-25 at the intermission. Freshman forward
Maggie Guynn paced the early offense for Concord as she posted 10 of her 13 points in the opening 20 minutes.
Out of the locker room, the Maroon and Gray opened the third quarter on a 13-2 run to lead 38-34. In the period, Concord outscored Urbana (3-21, 3-17 MEC) to six total points while scoring 21 of its own. During the 13-2 spurt, junior forward

Seemingly in control of the game, Concord opened up a 12-point fourth quarter lead after a Guynn three-pointer put CU up 56-44 with five minutes left. However, the Blue Knights reeled off 10 consecutive points to close within 56-54 with 1:35. The Mountain Lions were able to get consecutive defensive stops, and May hit two foul shots with 13 seconds left as Concord held on for a five-point win.
May registered her eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. She also blocked three shots. Pool's 10 points joined Guynn and May in double figures.
Sophomore forward
Tamra Scott had nine points and four rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench while fellow sophomore forward
Riley Fitzwater matched May's 13 rebounds.
The Mountain Lions held a resounding 53-38 advantage on the boards including 17 offensive rebounds.
With Saturday's win, Concord set the program record for regular-season wins with 21.
