LATE SURGE
Concord picked up a pair of road wins by downing Shepherd 80-74 and fending off Fairmont State, 79-67. In each instance, CU had an explosive fourth quarter. At Shepherd, the Mountain Lions found themselves down nine points with 6:30 left in the fourth quarter. However, Concord had its highest-scoring quarter of the season as it outscored SU 32-21 to win 80-74. In the fourth at Shepherd, CU shot 66.7 percent (10-for-15). Junior forward Madison May and senior guard Andreanna Pool combined for 20 of the 32 points. At Fairmont State on Saturday, freshman forward Maggie Guynn led the fourth-quarter charge with 11 of her career-best 18 points in the frame as the Mountain Lions tallied 26 points to FSU's 21. Entering last week, Concord was -1 in scoring differential in the fourth quarter, but now holds a 478-463 edge on opponents.
IRON WOMAN
By logging a game-high 38 minutes at Fairmont State, senior guard Emily Boothe played in her 110th career game at Concord. The Riner, Virginia native became the 12th player in program history to appear in 110 career games. Boothe has an active streak of six straight games in which she has played 34 or more minutes. Additionally, Glenville State's Courtney Davis and West Liberty's Johnie Olkosky are the only two MEC players to have played in more career games than Boothe.
MILESTONES
At Shepherd, May eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau with a free throw at the 5:51 mark of the first quarter. She became the 17th player in program history to reach the milestone, and on Saturday the Athens, West Virginia native passed Amber Showalter for 16th on the all-time CU scoring list. May now has 1,021 career points. With eight three-point attempts in the road games, Pool reached the minimum attempts of 200 to qualify for three-point percentage in the CU record books. The Durham, North Carolina native has been a 37.7 percent (77-for-204) shooter from three-point range over the last season-and-a-half at Concord. Pool ranks fourth in all-time three-point percentage at CU. And sophomore forward Riley Fitzwater needs 11 blocks to pass Jolysa Brown for the all-time lead in blocks as a Mountain Lion. Fitzwater has 214 blocks in her career.
WE'VE GOT POINTS
The last two meetings between Concord and Notre Dame has included plenty of offense. Last season, NDC picked up a 96-94 road win at the Carter Center. Back in November, CU avenged last year's loss with an 88-81 victory. In each win, Boothe, Fitzwater and Pool have been the offensive catalysts for the Mountain Lions. Fitzwater averaged a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds per game while shooting a combined 27-for-33 (81.8 percent) from the field. The Glenville, West Virginia native scored a career-best 34 points in last year's game at the Carter Center. Pool averaged 19 points per game while logging a shooting percentage of 48.3 (15-for-31) and going 7-of-12 from three-point distance (58.3 percent). Boothe did a little bit of everything for CU as she averaged 12 points, 5.5 rebounds and six assists per game in the two previous contests with NDC.
