Concord Drops Game at Urbana

URBANA, Ohio – The Concord University men's soccer team was unable to overcome an early 2-0 deficit as it lost 3-2 to Urbana Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at UU Stadium.

Much like the first meeting this season, Urbana (9-4-3, 9-3-2 MEC) jumped out with two goals in the first 20 minutes. Freshman forward Matt Shelor was able to cut the deficit in half by halftime as his goal in the 31st minute was the first for the Pembroke, Virginia native since scoring in a season-opening win over King.

Eight minutes into the second half, the Blue Knights stretched the lead back out to two goals. CU (3-10-2, 2-10-2 MEC) used a goal by senior midfielder Courtney Skerritt—his second straight game with a goal—in the 71st minute, but was unable to tie the game.

The only shot Concord was got off in the late stages was an attempt by Skerritt with 31 seconds left that missed the target.

Three of CU's five shots were on target as sophomore midfielder Diego Marti Perez had a shot on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Kyle Brown made eight saves in the game.

The Mountain Lions will hold Senior Day prior to Wednesday's 2:30 p.m. start against Notre Dame in Beckley, West Virginia.
