ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team shutout Charleston on its way to a 3-0 win Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at Anderson Field.
The Mountain Lions (8-1, 4-1 MEC) were forced to play a man down over the final 58 minutes of the game after a red card on Concord on a scoring chance by Charleston (5-5, 3-3 MEC) in the 32
nd minute. The foul occurred just outside the penalty area, and the ensuing free kick chance by UC went high of the goal.
Down a man, Concord scored three minutes before halftime as junior midfielder
Elisha Robinson put back a rebound on a shot from freshman forward
Rachel Bell that was initially saved to give CU a 1-0 edge at the intermission.
CU clamped down on the Golden Eagles as despite the man advantage Charleston was limited to seven shots the entire game, compared to 21 for Concord.
In the 75
th minute, freshman midfielder
Michelle Brogden received a pass from 25 yards away after an initial corner had been cleared away by UC. Brogden served the ball back into the penalty area where sophomore forward
Leah Foster scored after the ball hit the right goal post and also bounced off the Charleston goalie.
The final score came from junior midfielder
Mira Kontio in the 87
th minute as junior midfielder
Yasmin Mosby sent a pass to the perimeter of the field before Foster served it back into Kontio who finished off the goal in the top left hand corner.
For Robinson and Kontio, it was their second goals of the year, respectively. Foster netted her sixth.

Leah Marsh made four saves in the 58 minutes after coming on for junior goalkeeper
Katie Maher.
Concord travels to Fairmont State 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
