ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team downed West Virginia Wesleyan in four sets (25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23) Sunday afternoon at the Carter Center.
The Mountain Lions improve to 4-10 on the season with the victory and earn their first MEC win at 1-1. WVWC falls to 4-10 and 1-2 in MEC play.
CU nearly pulled off the sweep as it won the first two sets before being edged in the third game. However, Concord shook off the third-game defeat as well as an 11-4 deficit in the fourth game to win the match.

Sheridan Herron gave Concord a 21-17 lead before winning by five points.
In the second game, Concord fell behind 7-1, but battled back to finally tie the set at 17-17. Four Wesleyan errors in a five-point span gave CU a 22-19 lead. Pouncy came up with two more kills in the next three points as the Mountain Lions built a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set featured 14 ties from 0-0 to 18-18 until the Bobcats grabbed a three-point lead and held off Concord to force a fourth set. Much like the second game, the Mountain Lions faced an early deficit and trailed by as much as seven (11-4).
CU chipped away at the hole facing it and got within one point, but could not tie or take the lead until consecutive kills by sophomore right side
Camryn Huber tied the score at 20-20 and gave Concord a one-point edge. An ace by senior setter
Jenna Mounts followed the Huber kills as the Mountain Lions won in four games. The final three points for Concord were two kills by freshman middle hitter
Amber Hall and another by sophomore outside hitter
Peyton Wiseman.
Herron went for a career-best 12 kills while hitting .400 for the match. Hall and Huber each notched 10 kills with Hall hitting .500 in the match.
Mounts totaled 25 assists while sophomore setter
Imani Rodgers added 18 assists. Junior defensive specialist
Lindsay Maddox had a match-best 19 digs.
The Mountain Lions are back in action at Glenville State 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
