BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team scored two second-half goals to get by Wheeling, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Cline Stadium.
Wheeling (2-12, 1-11 MEC) scored in the 17
th minute of the game to go up 1-0 on CU (3-9-2, 2-9-2 MEC). Although shots were even at 7-7 in the first half, the Cardinals maintained the one-goal advantage at the intermission.

Courtney Skerritt who got past a Wheeling defender and fired a low line drive into the right corner of the goal from 15 yards away to tie the game.
In the 62
nd minute, after a Concord clearance defensive, sophomore forward
Daniel Culverwell was able to earn CU a corner kick by deflecting a ball off a WU defender. On the ensuing corner, Skerrit delivered the ball into the penalty area where it found the feet of junior midfielder
Samuel Appiah for his first collegiate goal.
Up 2-1, the Mountain Lions fended off the Cardinals late in the game. In the 85
th minute, Wheeling's Andres Carceres found himself inside the penalty area without a CU defender around, but freshman goalkeeper
Barett Schultz made a diving save to his right to keep Concord ahead.
From there, the Mountain Lions ran out the rest of the clock without a serious Wheeling threat to seal the win.
CU outshot Wheeling, 19-12, and had one more corner kick, 6-5. Culverwell had three shots while Skerritt recorded four. Schultz made five saves in the game.
The Mountain Lions head out on the road to face Urbana 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
