Concord Rallies to Beat Frostburg State in Five Sets

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Concord University volleyball team overcame a 2-1 deficit to get by Frostburg State in five sets (20-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-10, 15-13) Saturday morning in Mountain East Conference action.

Down 2-1 going to the fourth set, the Mountain Lions (7-15, 3-6 MEC) were able to finish the game strong and send the match to a decisive fifth set. Facing an 18-17 deficit in the fourth game, freshman outside hitter Hailey Buchanan and sophomore right side Camryn Huber came up with consecutive kills. Tied 19-19, Huber's two additional kills coupled with a FSU (10-11, 2-7 MEC) attack error gave
Concord the breathing room it needed to win the fourth game by five points.

In the final set CU fell behind 3-1, but rallied back to take a 7-6 lead after a service ace by sophomore setter Imani Rodgers. It wasn't until a run at 9-9 that the Mountain Lions were able to separate themselves in the fifth game. Three different Concord players tallied kills while senior setter Jenna Mounts served up an ace to put CU up 13-9 on its way to winning the match in five sets.

After Frostburg State won the first set, the Mountain Lions hit .292 in the second game to even the match. However, the Bobcats held CU to a -.171 hitting percentage in the third set to go up 2-1. Over the final two games, Concord hit .246.

Freshman middle hitter Amber Hall and Huber each had 18 kills in the match. Hall matched her career best while Huber recorded a new career high. Huber tallied 18 digs.

Junior right side Kenzie Coulter added 10 kills.

Junior defensive specialist Lindsay Maddox recorded a career-high 42 digs.

Both setters, Mounts and Rodgers, had double-doubles in the contest. Mounts went for 26 assists and 10 digs while Rodgers registered 17 assists and 14 digs.

Concord returns to the Carter Center to face non-conference foe UVa.-Wise 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
