WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University men's cross country team placed third at the Mountain East Conference Championship Saturday morning at Oglebay Resort's Crispin Golf Course.
Charleston was the team champion with a score of 20 points. Davis & Elkins scored 45 points to claim second while CU checked in with 89 points, 11 better than West Liberty.
The Mountain Lions put all five scoring runners in the top 25 led by freshman
Nate Leichner who finished sixth with a time of 27:07. Leichner, who was in the running for MEC Freshman of the Year, was the top freshman at the meet and was named MEC Freshman of the Year at the post race awards ceremony. The Christiansburg, Virginia native was also All-MEC First Team.
Sophomore
Isaac Prather earned All-MEC Second Team for a second straight season by finishing 17
th in a time of 27:47 for the 8,000-meter course. Fellow sophomore
Cedric Drennen was also named to the All-MEC Second Team for a second consecutive year as he placed 19
th in a time of 28:01.
Junior
Samuel Haynes was 22
nd as he crossed the line in 28:14. Junior
Andrew Barbera followed closely behind in 25
th as he recorded a time of 28:32. Fellow junior
Samuel Thomas occupied 26
th with a time of 29:00.
Charleston's Jack Mastandrea was voted as the MEC Runner of the Year while UC head coach Nick Bias was selected as the MEC Coach of the Year by his peers.
CU competes at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship hosted by Lock Haven November 9.
