BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team fell late to West Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1, Sunday in a Mountain East Conference game at Cline Stadium.
The first two goals of the game came five minutes apart. The Bobcats (7-4-1, 6-3 MEC) scored in the 26
th minute, but CU (2-7-2, 1-7-1 MEC) answered quickly in the 31
st minute. Shortly after a Concord corner kick, sophomore forward
Daniel Culverwell sent a pass to sophomore midfielder
Diego Marti Perez who quickly found junior defender
Bruno Baptista for his second goal of the season.
The game remained tied, 1-1, at halftime after junior goalkeeper
Kyle Brown made a sprawling save second before the intermission.
Over the much of the second half, both teams were unable to find scoring chances as both defenses kept the ball away from the penalty area. Wesleyan broke through with a goal in the 86
th minute which was just the seventh combined shot in the second half.
WVWC owned a 14-4 advantage in shots while holding a slim 4-2 edge in shots on goal.
Brown made two saves on the contest.
CU travels to Davis & Elkins 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
