ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team picked up its 10
th straight win with a convincing 74-39 victory over Bluefield State Monday night at the Carter Center.
The win was the fourth time this season the Mountain Lions (15-3) have defeated an opponent by 25 or more points. CU was able to outscore Bluefield State (6-15) 24-8 in the first quarter and never looked back as it ballooned its lead out to 20 points, 35-15, at halftime after two late second-quarter foul shots by senior guard
Emily Boothe.
BSC got the lead inside 20 points twice in the early stages of the third quarter, but consecutive buckets from junior forward
Madison May at the 7:24 mark climbed the lead up over 20 for the remainder of the contest.
The largest lead of the contest for the Mountain Lions came after sophomore forward
Tamra Scott converted two free throw at the end of the third quarter and put CU up by 36, 64-28.
The 39 points allowed by Concord were the fewest since it held Bluefield State to 38 points at the end of the 2010 season. The Mountain Lions also limited BSC to 28.6 percent shooting on Monday night—the fourth time they have held an opponent under 30 percent shooting this season. CU recorded 13 steals as five different players had multiple steals including Scott swiping a career-best three.
May led the scoring for Concord as she finished with 17 points while hauling in 10 rebounds. Boothe followed closely behind, just missing her own double-double with 16 points and eight rebounds. The Riner, Virginia native missed just two shots in the game as she went 4-for-5 from the field, 3-of-3 from three-point distance and 5-for-6 at the foul line.

Maggie Guynn tallied 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Senior guard
Andreanna Pool added 11 points.
All 10 players that dressed for CU saw at least 12 minutes of action, and nine of the 10 players scored in the contest.
Concord faces Glenville State 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a matchup of top-five regionally ranked teams.
